Nowadays renews lease for at least ten more years

This time last year, the club announced it would be holding weekly nonstop parties to make up for its uncertain future.

Ridgewood club Nowadays will be in business for at least a decade.

Announced via email on Tuesday, December 3rd, before being shared on social media, the venue stated they secured the space about a month ago.

Last year, I reported on the uncertainty of Nowadays’ future given its lease was ending the following year — this caused misinformation to spread about the club closing at least once a month. According to email from the venue, this new lease agreement will “enable us to keep doing our thing for at least the next ten years.”

The news comes amid an ongoing work dispute between Nowadays and its former booker, DJ Voices. The ex-employee and resident DJ for the club was terminated on January 8th with “zero warning,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Although partner Eamon Harkin listed reasons such as “insubordination” and “failure to fulfill the obligations of the role” for the decision to eliminate her position, she had expressed concerns of experiencing retaliation for organizing a letter of complaints and concerns with other members on the staff.

On September 24th, DJ Voices announced the National Labor Relations Board found merit to her claim of wrongful termination by Nowadays.
