Philippines dance music pioneer DJ Love has started a crowdfund to offset costs for heart care and recovery.
Launched by Jorge Wieneke V, a fellow budots trailblazer and DJ Love’s manager, the GoGetFunding page says the artist has been in a Davao hospital for the last three weeks, “undergoing multiple treatments and consultations with five different doctors.” Although there is no definitive diagnosis, DJ Love is expected to go into heart surgery. The funds raised will help cover his surgery, hospital expenses, medications, and post-treatment recovery. ₱166,788 of its ₱1,200,000 target has been reached at the time of writing.
Davao-born DJ Love created budots, a bouncy 140-bpm electronic music genre, around 15 years ago. Last year, the genre garnered more attention when he performed a Boiler Room set hosted by Manila Community Radio.
