Over the weekend, 20 producers from the footwork community put together a charity compilation to help PrinceJron (real name Jaron Boyd), a prominent dancer in Chicago, and his family, who experienced a devastating house fire.

Curated by DJ Clent, Footwork: We all we got includes tracks from local pioneers of the genre, such as RP Boo, Dj.Mc, TRAXMAN, and more. The album also features submissions from New York City’s Kush Jones and cofounder of Los Angeles-based Juke Bounce Werk, Sonic D. All of the proceeds from the project will go toward helping the Boyd family secure a new home.

On Tuesday night, October 22nd, two fires spread across the city of Chicago Heights, burning down six homes. According to a statement emailed to ABC 7 Chicago, there was a “momentary delay in accessing water” due to nearby construction and a water main break. Firefighters had to go over 1,000 miles away to find a functioning hydrant. Three of the six homes were occupied then, leading to nine residents being evacuated. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

“Water did not reappear until our homes were destroyed,” PrinceJron wrote in the caption of an Instagram post showing live footage of the incident. “These two homes were historical places and save havens in our city. These were the homes for the community — for food, shelter, laughs, dance, love, and support for generations, and which were highly respected across the world.”

A crowdfund has also been launched to raise funds to support two of the families who were affected, which includes Boyd’s. Donations will go toward finding new homes as well as clothes, food, and other urgent essentials. The page description says three members from both families have been left homeless due to lack of supplies from the Red Cross. At the time of writing, $2,845 of their $20,000 goal had been reached.

PrinceJron is the founder of Chicago’s HaVoC Footwork Crew and was an original member of the FootworKINGz. He teaches footwork internationally to students of all levels.
