Moveltraxx shares 18-track compilation for 18th anniversary
DJ Rashad, DJ Tameil, and DJ Slugo are amongst the names featured on the record.
London label Moveltraxx turned 18 this week.
Yesterday, February 6th, the imprint released a V/A compilation to celebrate its birthday. MOVELTRAXX 18 includes cuts from its earliest artists, such as Waxmaster, DJ Rashad, DJ Tameil, Traxman, and more. It also resurfaces more recent hits, such as “House Love” from DJ Phil’s Boarding Pass - Prelude To The Flight EP. On the project’s Bandcamp page, it’s described as “a love letter to 18 years of dedication to juke, footwork, Jersey club, ghetto house, and hybrid bass [and] club music.”
The blurb continued: “This journey has taken us around the globe, introducing us to most of the incredible artists who have helped us shaped the label. We’ve experienced magical moments and life-changing experiences that only music can provide, but also heartbreaking losses with the passing of core founders and artists.”
While the album is comprised of 18 previously-released works, the label promises new music is also on the way. Many of the featured artists will also be performing in Chicago this April for the 30th anniversary of Dance Mania, a legacy label credited for inspiring the inception of Moveltraxx.
Moveltraxx was founded by Big Dope P and some friends in Paris on February 6th, 2007. Its catalog has since become an active archive for the lesser-celebrated American dance music subgenres and their pioneers, who often go neglected in the electronic music industry. In 2024, Moveltraxx was Beatport’s top-selling bass and club label of the year.
