The reissue of a footwork classic now sits in Spinn’s home turf.

Anyone familiar with Chicago footwork should already the Teklife co-founder, DJ Spinn. Last week, “Bounce N Break Yo Back,” which is easily the producer’s most recognizable song, got a reissue on his own imprint. Initially released in 2007 as part of the Juke City Volume 1 compilation on legacy Chicago juke label Bang Tha Box Recordingz, the track sat alongside submissions by Teklife cofounder DJ Rashad as well as other trailblazers of the time including Traxman, Bobby Skillz, DJ Nephets, and BTB’s label boss himself, Gant-Man.

“Bounce N Break Yo Back” is a quintessential Spinn. Popping percussion serves as the backdrop to repetitive, baritone vocals that carry throughout its entirety. Spinn’s signature sound has a dark element to it—and you can hear it clearly here. Almost a minute in, eerie strings creep through the raunchy vocals, adding a menacing depth to the melody.

Despite debuting on the classic juke compilation, the song’s triplet rhythms veer more towards footwork territory—which isn’t a shock, all things considered. “Bounce N Break Yo Back” is a relic of the time that solidified Spinn as a staple in the scene. While the track remains Bang Tha Box’s number 1 selling single, it finding its way back to Teklife feels right.
